Ulana, The Way of the Heart
I came into this world with a strong connection to my Inner Spirit and a physical gift and love for singing. You could see the sparkle and joy in my eyes, and I constantly was looking for ways to help others. I also believed it was my purpose in life to share my voice.
Yet by the time I was 10, the sparkle and joy was gone from my eyes, leaving a shell of who I had been – from sexual molestation I experienced in 3rd grade from a teacher and the ongoing verbal and emotional abuse from the other teachers and priests throughout elementary and high school, making me feel there was something innately wrong with me, because I was a female. This led me to experiencing depression, isolation, self-hatred and anxiety through most of my adolescence that then continued on into my early adulthood, affecting all areas of my life – failed relationships, losing my "true" voice and connection to my creativity, and being able to be successful. I was always just "getting by".
This began my Spiritual Quest in looking for answers and relief from the emotional pain that I continued to experience. I studied and walked several different ancient spiritual paths as well as learning and using modern body/mind integration techniques. The spiritual paths included apprenticing to a Native American Spiritual Teacher for 14 years, becoming a Ceremonialist and Teacher of these ancient traditions and in Embracing the Divine/Sacred Feminine. As a professional singer, I also became a voice specialist/teacher and sound healer in the early 80's through Somatic Voicework, the LoVetri Method
It was when I was introduced 30 years ago to the ancient Hawaiian Spiritual Teachings of Living Aloha through their Sacred Dance and Ancient Storytelling, called Hula, that I finally begin healing my relationship with my body and spirit from those early traumas in my life. I have continued my study of Hula since with several Kumu Hula (Master Teachers of Hula) both in Hawai'i and on the Mainland, and I began sharing hula with other women throughout the US and Canada since the late 80's. Most of the Hula I share now comes from Lehua Kawakapuokalani Hewett and Susan Pa'iniu Floyd who I began studying with in 2004. I also studied Hawaiian Spirituality with Aunty Pua Wong-Brentlinger and Serge Kahili King in the late 90's and with Kumu Mahealani Kuamo'o Henry, a Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) since June, 2020.
All of this together brought the sacredness back into my life. I found freedom and release from my past and the old self-limiting thought patterns and emotions from my early conditioning that had become my "inner critic". I found my true voice again and the belief in myself and my self-worth; and in being able to speak up for myself, to create the life I choose, no matter what is being said or done around me, and to experience joy and harmony in my relationships.
Now it is my mission to help bring these ancient teachings and what helped me to heal to other women in today's world as we are going through this major time of transformation. It is time for women to stand fully in their Greatness to help bring this world back into balance. What I am sharing now is a culmination of everything I have studied and experienced that helped me though my healing journey. It is all in a program I created called "Own Your Authentic Voice". Through Weaving Your Lei of Life with Joy, Positivity, Acceptance, Confidence and Sacredness, it is in helping women through using their Voice as A Source of Personal Power, to be the Master Creator of their Desired Life, no matter what is going on around them. It is also through Hula, the Hawaiian Sacred Dance, in helping women to heal their relationship with their body by being in the natural flow and rhythm with Nature. Private consultations and group classes and training programs are available online and in person at the Love & Light Healing Collective in Spartanburg SC.
